What is SEMrush?
SEMrush is an all-in-one tool suite for improving online visibility. Our tools and reports are able to help marketers that work in the following services:
- SEO
- PPC
- Keyword Research
- Competitive Analysis
- Social Media Marketing
- Public Relations
- Content Marketing
- Marketing Insights
- Campaign Management
Gathering Data
There are two ways of gathering data on SEMrush. The first way is pulling reports to gather data on domains and keywords in the SEMrush database.
Reports are triggered by entering a domain or keyword into the search bar at the top of SEMrush. From here you can select the report you want to see from the menu on the left. These reports allow you to research your competitor’s online strategy, find keywords to target with your campaigns, and much more.
The second way is by creating Projects. SEMrush Projects allow you to gather data from outside of the SEMrush database to analyze a website’s online visibility. Read Launching a Project to walk you through creating your first Project.
Choosing Your Toolkit
As a SEMrush subscriber, you have access to all of the reports and tools that we have to offer. However, you may not need to use every report to get the data you need.
Our menus of reports and tools make it easier for you to find tools specific to your focus. There's a toolkit for SEO, Advertising, Social Media, Content Marketing, and Competitive Research. When you know the toolkit that best suits your needs, SEMrush will simplify the menu and list the tools that more closely fit your needs.
Entering Queries
Researching domains:
One of the easiest things to do on SEMrush is to pull a Domain Overview report. All you need to do is enter a domain into the search bar. Next, SEMrush will present all of the information we have available to study the queried site. There will be quick links to jump into deeper reports analyzing backlinks, organic and paid keywords, and more.
You can find any website’s top competitors, keywords, backlinks and more just by clicking around in the Domain Overview. The navigation menu to the left can be used to jump between our deeper reports without having to re-enter your query.
Researching Keywords:
It’s also incredibly easy to research a keyword in our database. Enter a word or phrase in the search bar and SEMrush will populate a Keyword Overview report. This report provides you with all of the information we have on that term. Now you’ll be able to click around from top-level metrics to more in-depth reports.
For an in-depth keyword research experience, use the Keyword Magic Tool. This tool can generate millions of related keywords and place them into groups to help you mentally organize your research.
Starting a Project
Projects on SEMrush offer additional tracking and analysis tools to help you monitor everything about a website's online visibility. Site Audit, Position Tracking, Social Media Poster, and On-Page SEO Checker are just some of the Project tools that help you manage your online presence.
Once you are in the project section, you can create a new project by clicking on the blue add new project button in the top right of the dashboard.
As your Project gathers data over time, your main dashboard and SEO dashboard will present a summary of your site's progress. For a full list of Project tools and how to start your first project, read our Launching a Project article.
Generating Reports
At any time during your workflow, you can export spreadsheets of data to save your research. If you want to make your data more presentable, you can create custom PDF reports in the My Reports tool.
Here we offer a handful of report templates and the ability to customize the report to fit your specific business needs. Analysis from tools such as Position Tracking, Site Audit, Social Media Tracker, and more can all be integrated with research data into a clean PDF.
In addition to data from SEMrush, you can add your own screenshots and widgets from Google Analytics and Google Search Console. If you work with clients, these reports can also be branded and white-labeled to create a professional look.
Please note: White Labeled reports are only available for Business level users
