How to Use AI Ad Copy Generator

Generating ads with this tool is very straightforward. 

1. Navigate to the tool in the Semrush App Center. 

2. Once there, enter the URL of the website or page you would like the tool to analyze and create ad copy for. 

The first page of the app has a search bar for the URL you would like to shape your ads from. Once that URL is input, there is a purple “Continue” button. 

3. On the next page, enter the keywords you would like included or targeted in the AI-generated ads. If you want to include more than one group of keywords, click the “Add keyword group” button to create another set of keywords. 

The next page includes a box to type in your keywords, a button to include new keyword groups, and the option to receive AI-generated ad only or to receive AI-generated ads with human review. When you have made your selections, hit “Generate ads” button. 

4. Once you have added your keyword group or groups, you should note that the app defaults to “AI-generated” ads only. If you have already purchased a premium subscription, you will also get the option to have your ads reviewed by a person. If you would like to subscribe to a premium license, click “Subscribe for $79/mo” in the right-hand box under “AI-generated + Human review.” 

5. Click “Generate ads.” 

The button to generate your AI ads is purple and sits in the bottom left-hand corner of the page. 

6. A pop-up will ask if you want to enable email notifications. This allows the tool to send the data to you. If you want this option, click “Enable notifications.” 

Receive your results by email by clicking on the purple “Enable notifications” button. 

7. A second pop-up will verify your email address. Click “Sure” to continue. 

Click on the green “Sure” button to confirm you want your results sent to the email address shown in the pop-up. 

8. You will return to the home screen with a “History” section that includes the URL you just searched. You should see a progress bar to the right, indicating that the tool is working to crawl your URL and generate keyword-targeted ads. 

You will be returned to the homepage where the URL you just searched will appear in the “History” section of the page with a red dot and a progress wheel to the right. 

9. Once the app has generated the creative assets, you will receive an email notification. This email notification will go to the email address you selected when you initially set up the app. Inside the email there will be a link that takes you to the app where you can download the assets. 

The email notification will look like the image below. 

The subject line for the CSV export will be “Your ad groups for [URL] are ready,” and the sender will be “AI Ad Copy Generator.” 

10. Another way to access your AI-generated ad copy is by heading directly to the app itself. Once the tool has done its work, the “Get assets” button will appear under “History” to the right of your searched URL.

Once the tool is finished, go down to the history section of the homepage and hit “Get assets” to the right of your search URL. 

11. A pop-up will appear asking if you want to export CSV data to a new or existing ad campaign. In this case, select “For new campaign.” If you want to export the data for an existing campaign, type in the name of that campaign, click the dot to the left of the “For existing campaign” option, and hit “Export CSV.” 

Your assets will then be ready to download from the app. 

Select the option for a new or existing campaign and hit the purple “Export CSV” button at the bottom of the export pop-up window. 

12. Your default spreadsheet program should open with the results from the AI Ad Copy Generator. First, you’ll get some basic information about the campaign followed by other headline options, eight ad descriptions, and eight callout options for the URL you selected. 

The ads are provided in a spreadsheet where you can review headlines, descriptions, and callouts for your Google Ads. 

13. The app will generate multiple headlines, descriptions, and call-out options for you to use in your campaign. 

Pro tip: Check the text to verify that there are no errors before using these assets in a campaign. 

AI + Human Review 

Premium subscription users have the option to have a real person review the ads the tool generates. Once the app has created the ads, a specialist will review the final product and delete any invalid options. 

To access this feature, click on the “AI-generated + human review” box after you enter a new URL. Premium users can have a person review their ads. To do this, click on the “AI-Generated + human review” option to the right of the screen and then click the purple “Generate ads” button.

Results take up to 10 minutes to generate if there is a human review, and less without it. The generation process itself supports multitasking. The user can start a new campaign while the previous one is running.
